How to be intentional about your health, wellbeing and fitness in your midlife

Live with intention. Walk to the edge. Listen hard. Practice wellness. Play with abandon. Laugh. Chose without regret. Appreciate your friends. Continue to learn. Do what you love. Live as if this is all there is." — Mary Ann Radmacher

Instead of thinking about the things you need to change to 'fix' yourself or lose weight, why not make 2024 focus on being your best version?  The version of you that prioritises your health and wellbeing first. The immovable version of you (not the "fixed" version, simply the best version).

So, how do we become the best versions of ourselves? How do we make that transition?

Step 1 - Be Honesty

Being honest about your current situation and lifestyle is the key to any change. Facing your current situation is one of the most challenging things you can do; it took me years and a vast emotional turmoil to accept where I was in my life and what and how I wanted to live.

I am still a work in progress and will be forever! But once I decided to change my lifestyle, to stop focusing on the modern-day life hits and become intentional about how I wanted to grow and develop as a woman - my mental health, relationships, and overall wellbeing improved 100% and continues to improve. And for that, I am very grateful, but it is hard work.

Step 2 - Be intentional

When I began studying and working in the health and wellbeing space, I began to think and talk to my clients about; what if we managed our wellbeing the same way we managed our careers and work life? And in doing so, we set out our intentions for the year and prioritised our wellbeing first.

Each year, I get my calendar out before the start of the year and start planning my life around the endurance events or adventures I want to do. And by that, I don't mean expensive trips worldwide; often, it is planning a day cycling or a weekend away in Snowdonia wild swimming. It's the things that support my mental, physical and social health.

For you, it could be walking, running, reading, or a new culture hobby - the point is to start planning your year around things that matter to you.

It is this intentionality that will contribute to your happiness and fulfilment. Moving forward with clear direction around what's important to you helps you positively contribute to your emotional and mental health - as you feel more in control. Trust me - I have lived and worked in a high-octane advertising industry for over 20 years, and switching my focus by living a more intentionally purpose-driven life has been life-changing.

Step 3 - Take 10

So, as we enter the first few days of 2024, I encourage you to take 10 minutes to think about the areas of your life you'd like to work on and start to get super clear about what matters to you and your wellbeing. Write them on post notes, stick them around the house and start to visualise that immovable version of you!
